The government has initiated the construction of the Skopje–Black Lake highway, a major infrastructure undertaking intended to significantly boost regional economic activity. According to Aleksandar Nikolloski, the Deputy Minister and Minister of Transport, this new road axis is designed to establish critical links between the country and the ports located in Albania and Montenegro. Speaking on the “Radar” podcast, Nikolloski announced the successful securing of vital funding for the project.
He detailed that an agreement was reached for a grant, providing approximately 31 million euros in non-refundable funds from the European Union. This funding accounts for roughly 15 percent of the total project value, a development that directly lowers the financial burden on the state and underscores the confidence of European partners in the endeavor. The completion of this key highway is projected to modernize Macedonia’s connectivity, establishing a crucial transport link connecting Skopje with neighboring countries, including Kosovo, Albania, and Montenegro.
This improved infrastructure is expected to facilitate trade and accelerate commercial exchanges across the region. Nikolloski emphasized that the development of this major highway is more than just a construction effort; it represents a strategic boost to the national economy.
