US attacks Iran after closure of the Strait of Hormuz

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that U.S. military forces conducted recent strikes targeting Iranian assets.

These actions followed an incident involving an attack on a container ship flying the flag of Cyprus. CENTCOM reported that this marked a third round of strikes this week. The alleged provocation occurred when forces associated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attacked the commercial vessel.

According to CENTCOM statements, the incident resulted in one missing civilian crew member and rendered the ship incapable of continuing its voyage due to onboard fires and significant damage sustained in the engine room. In response to such activities, the U.S. stated its commitment to deterring aggression in international waterways.

CENTCOM asserted that the United States is actively working to impose costs on any entity attempting to disrupt the passage of civilian mariners and commercial vessels through the strait. Separately, reports indicated that explosions were observed in southern Iran, as reported by Iran’s Press TV. The Iranian state broadcaster IRIB also provided updates regarding the region.

The escalation of tensions underscores ongoing regional instability, with the U.S. military maintaining a posture aimed at ensuring freedom of navigation following the recent strikes.
