Approximately 11,000 public officials declared their assets this year, according to Yll Buleshkaj, Director of the Anti-Corruption Agency (APK). In an interview with Ekonomia Online, Buleshkaj reported the details of the annual asset declaration process. He confirmed that the entire procedure this year was managed exclusively through the electronic system.
The report indicated that while the vast majority of officials complied, 62 individuals were fined for failing to meet the stipulated deadlines for declaring their assets. Furthermore, the Anti-Corruption Agency identified discrepancies during the verification of several declarations. Consequently, seven cases involving these discrepancies were forwarded to the State Prosecutor’s Office for further investigation.
The process serves as a key mechanism for monitoring public integrity. Buleshkaj emphasized the digital nature of the declaration process, noting that the electronic system facilitated the collection and initial review of the assets belonging to the officials. The mandatory declaration helps ensure transparency regarding the financial standing and potential conflicts of interest among government personnel.
