Google has reinstated the online profiles of several Albanian businesses following a period of negative reviews on its platform. The company reportedly removed the one-star reviews that were part of a coordinated online campaign. This action followed a request submitted by the state police.
Consequently, the affected business profiles have been restored to their status preceding the negative review campaign. As a result of the removal, the average rating and the total number of reviews displayed on Google have returned to their previous metrics. The coordinated campaign gained considerable visibility across social media networks, during which numerous users posted one-star ratings for a range of businesses within a short timeframe.
In their accompanying comments, some users alleged that these businesses had received financial benefits from government support.
