AGK and partner organizations will not evaluate the selection of the RTK director

The Association of Journalists of Kosovo, the FOL Movement, the Kosovo Institute for Democracy, and lawyer Flutura Kusari have announced that they will not participate in the evaluation of the director selection process for RTK News Gazeta Express scheduled for July 13, 2026. The decision by these groups stems from concerns regarding the operational environment of the public broadcaster, RTK. According to the organizations, monitoring of RTK has revealed allegations of political pressure influencing news content, instances of interference within reporting, and documented issues concerning salary disbursements.

Consequently, the groups stated that they do not believe the RTK Board possesses the necessary autonomy to act solely based on professional convictions during the director selection procedure. While withdrawing their assessment of the selection, the organizations did affirm their commitment to continued oversight. They emphasized that they will continue to monitor the meetings held by RTK.

However, this monitoring will not translate into a formal evaluation of the ongoing director selection process. This collective withdrawal signals a significant statement regarding institutional independence within Kosovo’s media sector. The groups’ action suggests a deep-seated concern that the integrity of the public broadcaster’s leadership appointment process is compromised.

They maintain that their continued observation of RTK proceedings will proceed, but they will not offer an official judgment or attempt to evaluate the legitimacy of the process itself.
