Hykmete Bajrami, a Deputy representing the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), has publicly criticized the current state of the national health sector. Bajrami accused the government of systemic mismanagement, instances of corruption, and a failure to guarantee essential services for patients across Kosovo. In her public remarks, Bajrami contended that an accurate assessment of the healthcare system’s condition cannot be derived solely from official press briefings or statistical reports issued by government bodies.
Instead, she argued that the true reality must be gauged by the lived experiences of patients within major medical facilities. She specifically directed attention toward the University Clinical Center of Kosovo (QKUK) as a benchmark for evaluation. Bajrami stated that rather than accepting official narratives, observers should consult the patient base.
“If you want to know what the state is like, do not judge it by press conferences or the figures that government officials present every day. Ask the sick,” she wrote. To substantiate her claims regarding the general health infrastructure, Bajrami urged the public to examine departmental realities, pointing to specific areas such as Pediatrics, Gynecology, Oncology, and Orthopedics.
According to her statement, the waiting lists within these key departments provide a clearer picture of the operational challenges facing the national health system in Kosovo. This critique underscores a significant public debate regarding the necessary reforms and accountability within the country’s medical services.
