The Kosovo Reconstruction Union (KRU) recently held a high-level meeting with a delegation from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), which was headed by Sergiy Maslichenko. Discussions centered on the next critical steps required for the realization of the “Podujeva Wastewater Treatment Project.”
This major infrastructure initiative has secured significant financial backing from the EBRD. The project is slated to receive a loan of up to 25 million euros, with the formal signing expected in 2024.
Complementing this financing, a separate Grant Agreement valued at 475,000 euros was executed to further support the project’s implementation phase. Collectively, these commitments bring the total value of the wastewater treatment project to approximately 35 million euros. This substantial investment positions it as one of the largest undertakings within Kosovo’s wastewater treatment sector.
Officials noted the project’s considerable environmental and infrastructural significance for the region. The funding structure, combining substantial loan capital with dedicated grant funding, underscores the commitment to upgrading essential public utilities. The successful execution of this treatment facility is anticipated to provide crucial environmental benefits and enhance regional infrastructure capacity.
The collaboration between the KRU and the EBRD is pivotal in moving this large-scale development forward.
