The Infectious Clinic at the University Hospital Center of Kosovo (QKUK) has reported treating a significant number of patients related to a suspected food poisoning incident. According to a statement issued by the clinic, the facility received urgent medical attention from approximately 30 individuals over the course of April 13, 14, and 15, 2026. Currently, 31 patients remain hospitalized at the center for observation and care.
Detailed laboratory analyses conducted on the affected group have identified 11 positive cases of the bacterium Salmonella Enteritidis. Clinic representatives confirmed that all hospitalized patients are receiving appropriate medical treatment, and their general condition is reportedly improving. Beyond the clinical updates, the situation has prompted official intervention from legal authorities.
The Prosecutor’s Office has initiated a formal investigation into the matter. This investigation encompasses a broader scope, covering more than 90 individuals who presented with symptoms consistent with food poisoning during the specified period. The authorities are working to determine the source and scope of the contamination related to the suspected foodborne illness.
