The opposition party, LSDM, issued a statement today accusing the release of Dragan Pavlloviq Llatasi, following the Prosecutor’s Office withdrawing charges against him, of indicating political influence within the justice system. The party contends that this development, coupled with the recent acquittal of former Prime Minister Nikolla Gruevski, suggests that Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski exerts direct control over both the Prosecutor’s Office and the judicial system. The LSDM statement argued that the pattern suggests preferential treatment for allies of OBRM-PDUKM or Mickoski.
Specifically, the party claimed, “When it concerns someone close to OBRM-PDUKM or Mickoski himself, the charges disappear. When it concerns political opponents or critics of the government, the Prosecutor’s Office is exceptionally zealous and effective.”
According to the opposition, this perceived discrepancy in the application of law presents a significant impediment to the nation’s integration with Europe. The LSDM emphasized that such inconsistencies undermine the rule of law, which is a prerequisite for European Union membership.
The party maintained that the perceived manipulation of the prosecutor’s actions casts doubt on the impartiality of the judicial process, thereby hindering the country’s alignment with European standards.
