BMW meets customer demands – M2 with xDrive system

BMW has announced a significant modification to the M2 model, making the vehicle available with an all-wheel-drive (xDrive) system—a capability previously considered outside the traditional scope of the M series. Historically, the M2 has been synonymous with the pure, rear-wheel-drive characteristics expected of a dedicated sports car. However, shifting customer demands have prompted this engineering adjustment.

The primary catalyst for this change stems from feedback gathered in various international markets. Specifically, buyers residing in regions prone to severe weather, such as parts of the United States and Switzerland, expressed a need for an M2 capable of reliable, year-round operation. These customer requirements emphasized enhanced safety and stability, particularly during challenging winter conditions.

Despite integrating the xDrive system, BMW has confirmed that the core sporting character of the M2 remains intact. The new all-wheel-drive setup provides intelligent power distribution between the front and rear axles as required by driving conditions. Crucially, the system retains manual override functionality, allowing the driver to deactivate the xDrive system and revert the vehicle to traditional rear-wheel-drive operation when desired.

This blend of advanced traction technology with customizable performance settings aims to meet modern customer expectations without compromising the model’s spirited driving dynamics.
