The acting Minister of Environment, Fitore Pacolli, addressed allegations raised by LDK deputy Hykmetë Bajrami concerning the operational status of the Svirca Landfill. Pacolli refuted claims suggesting that the Company for the Management of Landfills of Kosovo (KMDK) is responsible for the site’s management. Instead, she asserted that the oversight and management authority rest with the Regional Waste Company, “Ambienti.”
During the exchange, Pacolli also criticized Bajrami for filing a criminal complaint against the Government and called upon the Prosecutor’s Office to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
While acknowledging that the Svirca Landfill is reportedly not being managed according to established standards, she clarified that KMDK had provided guidance to the “Ambienti” company regarding the proper separation of waste layers from soil and other non-combustible materials. According to the Minister, the Ministry of Environment has already implemented necessary corrective measures. Furthermore, she noted that the Inspectorate had issued penalties in relation to the site’s operations.
The discussion centered heavily on the proper governance of the national waste management sector and the ongoing state of the local environment. Pacolli maintained that the Ministry is actively engaged in ensuring compliance and adherence to environmental regulations, directly responding to the concerns raised by bajrami regarding the site’s upkeep.
