High temperatures continue to restrict truck circulation on Kosovo’s highways even today

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport has issued a notice announcing temporary adjustments to vehicle movement today, April 20, 2026. These restrictions specifically target freight vehicles with a gross weight surpassing 20 tons. The measure is being implemented solely within the city center area, effective between 11:00 AM and 5:30 PM.

The primary catalyst for these temporary changes is the forecast of high temperatures, with readings expected to reach 32 degrees Celsius or higher. To mitigate potential strain on infrastructure during this period of elevated heat, the Ministry has mandated changes to the normal circulation patterns for heavy goods vehicles. It is important to note that these restrictions are geographically limited.

The circulation of freight vehicles on national, regional, and connecting roads remains unrestricted. Furthermore, several groups are explicitly exempt from these temporary rules, including vehicles belonging to law enforcement, public security personnel, emergency services, and healthcare institutions. The Ministry has issued a formal request for all economic operators and vehicle drivers to adhere strictly to the established regulations.

This coordinated effort aims to ensure the smooth flow of necessary traffic while managing the impact of the anticipated high temperatures across the metropolitan area. Compliance with these temporary guidelines is necessary for maintaining urban mobility throughout the specified hours.
