Kosovo police personnel are frequently engaged in frontline duties and the protection of citizens. Despite their critical role, numerous police officers reportedly lack adequate protective equipment for life-threatening situations while on duty. According to Radio Dukagjini, a significant number of officers from the latest cohort are still unequipped with anti-bullet vests.
Avdi Hoti, the Chairman of the Kosovo Police Union, highlighted that the last four generations of the police have reportedly operated without anti-bullet vests due to issues stemming from the tender process. Hoti stressed the necessity of standardizing protective gear, stating, “It is very important that even the anti-bullets, like all other equipment of the uniform, the anti-bullet vest is part of the official equipment and every police officer must have it while on official duty.”
The ongoing deficiency in essential protective gear remains a concern for security experts. For instance, security expert Hysë Gecaj addressed the issue of the lack of anti-bullet vests, emphasizing the risks faced by the police force.
The absence of such critical protective items compromises the safety and operational readiness of the police officers. Ensuring that all police personnel are consistently provided with proper, standardized anti-bullet vests is viewed as crucial for maintaining security standards and safeguarding the officers who serve the public.
