Police authorities have initiated the enforcement of new legal regulations pertaining to the operation of electric scooters. These updated rules, amendments to the Road Traffic Safety Law, officially took effect on April 14, and enforcement actions have resulted in a total of 12 fines being issued to date. According to reports from the Ministry of Interior, the citations cover several areas of non-compliance.
Specifically, three fines were issued to drivers operating an electric scooter without wearing a protective helmet, for which the stipulated penalty is 50 euros. A larger portion of the infractions involved operating the scooter in designated areas where such vehicles are prohibited, leading to nine fines each carrying an 80 euro penalty. Furthermore, the police recorded one instance where a driver received a 100 euro fine for using a mobile phone while actively riding the electric scooter.
The Ministry of Interior confirmed that all sanctions issued thus far relate directly to violations of the newly implemented traffic safety guidelines governing the use of personal electric mobility devices. These enforcement measures underscore the authorities’ commitment to ensuring adherence to updated safety protocols for all scooter operators.
