The Assembly of the Self-Determination Movement within the Municipal Council of Malisheva, represented by Veton Zogaj, has voiced concerns regarding the municipality’s plan to issue long-term concession rights for the Mirusha Lake Park. Zogaj alleged that the disposition of the public property poses a risk of the park being utilized for partisan objectives. In a public statement, Zogaj emphasized that the park was developed using public funds and must continue to serve the general citizenry.
“The Mirusha Lake Park was not built with a party’s money, but with the citizens’ money. Nearly half a million euros were invested there so that citizens would have a public space for rest, recreation, and tourism development,” he stated. According to the Assembly’s representative, the municipality’s current actions suggest an effort to benefit select, narrow interests.
Zogaj noted that the local government’s intention to grant the concession raises questions about the park’s intended use. The core of the dispute centers on maintaining the public nature of the Mirusha Lake Park. The Assembly contends that the park’s designation as a public amenity requires its management to prioritize community benefit over private or political gain.
Their objections suggest that the concession process, as currently proposed, deviates from the park’s original purpose as a shared resource for the Malisheva community.
