75 votes in favor, Parliament passes the appropriation of $302 million from the US through expedited procedure

The Albanian Parliament granted approval for the accelerated adoption of a loan agreement between Albania and the United States. The agreement, which was presented by the government on Friday, falls under the structure of the Foreign Military Financing (FMF) framework. The terms of the agreement stipulate a loan totaling 302 million US dollars.

These funds are designated for use by the Albanian Armed Forces and are intended to bolster the nation’s overall defense capabilities. During the commencement of the plenary session, the Speaker of the Parliament, Niko Peleshi, formally announced that the agreement had been placed on the day’s agenda for an expedited review process. Peleshi confirmed that the legislative body was set to approve, in principle, the direct loan agreement between the Republic of Albania, represented by the Ministry of Finance, and the United States.

The swift passage through the parliament underscores the strategic importance of the financial support for Albania’s defense sector. The approval process was streamlined to ensure the necessary resources could be secured efficiently. The disbursement of the 302 million dollars is expected to significantly contribute to modernization efforts within the country’s military infrastructure, solidifying bilateral defense cooperation between the two nations.
