Professor Ivan Videnoviq, a professor at the University of Belgrade, has asserted that Montenegro is making significant progress toward integration with the European Union. In an interview with the Montenegrin medium Pobjeda, Videnoviq suggested that the regional geopolitical influence exerted by both Belgrade and Moscow is currently facing difficulties. Videnoviq cautioned that various sectors within Serbia—including political, media, and criminal circles—might attempt to impede Montenegro’s trajectory toward the EU.
Nevertheless, he expressed optimism, believing that the momentum generated by the EU integration process is providing new impetus within Montenegrin society. Concerning Andrija Mandiq, the President of the Montenegrin Parliament, the Serbian academic proposed that Mandiq may have concluded that the political alternatives offered by Serbia are limited, making the path toward the EU the most advantageous option for Montenegro. The discussion also included criticism directed at the leadership of Serbia.
Videnoviq offered strong commentary regarding Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, characterizing his political standing in his remarks. Overall, Videnoviq’s analysis frames Montenegro’s current momentum as a decisive step away from historical regional dependencies toward Western European alignment.
