Cigarettes worth 9 million denars seized in Bogorodi, Serbian citizen detained

Customs officials conducted an operation at the Bogorodiça border crossing, resulting in the seizure of a substantial quantity of illicit tobacco products. According to the Macedonian Customs, during the inspection of a vehicle transporting goods valued at nine million denars, authorities discovered five thousand boxes of cigarettes. The vehicle was reportedly carrying building materials, specifically marble, and was declared for transit from Greece into Serbia.

However, the detailed inspection revealed undeclared contraband. Officials found the cigarettes packaged in 100 boxes, with each box containing 50 individual boxes of cigarettes, totaling the 5,000 seized units. A key finding noted by the customs agency was that these cigarettes lacked the necessary excise stamps.

The driver of the truck, identified as a Serbian national, was subsequently detained. The Public Prosecutor’s Office in Gevgelija initiated charges against the driver for smuggling. The total value attributed to the seized cigarettes reached nine million denars.

This operation highlights the ongoing efforts of customs agencies to enforce border regulations and prevent the illegal movement of goods. Authorities confirmed that the seizure was made following a routine customs inspection at the border crossing.
