The State Prosecutor has formalized a cooperation agreement with the Basel Institute for the Tracing and Return of Illegal Assets of Kosovo. The agreement was jointly signed by State Prosecutor Zejnulla Gashi, Elizabeth Andersen, the Executive Director of the Basel Institute for Governance in Switzerland (IBQ), and Iker Lekuona, Director of the International Centre for Asset Recovery (QNRP – ICAR). This electronic cooperation agreement is designed to enhance efforts aimed at repatriating and re-establishing assets that were acquired through corruption or other illicit abuses of power and are currently situated abroad.
These assets are legally recognized as belonging to the Republic of Kosovo. Furthermore, the scope of this cooperation extends to supporting the ease of such recovery processes. The partnership establishes a framework for international collaboration, leveraging the expertise and networks of the participating institutions.
The signing marks a significant step in the State’s commitment to combating financial crime and recovering stolen state assets. By formalizing this agreement, the prosecutor’s office and international partners have established clear mechanisms to trace, secure, and return funds and properties belonging to Kosovo. This initiative is expected to strengthen the rule of law and promote transparency in the management of national wealth.
