American manufacturer Hennessey, which has evolved from a tuning specialist to a dedicated supercar creator, has officially unveiled its third fully developed model: the Blackbird. The vehicle’s name is directly inspired by the legendary Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird spy plane. In a departure from many contemporary high-performance vehicles that rely on turbocharging or hybrid power sources, the Blackbird embraces a classic engineering foundation.
It is equipped with a 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine, developed in collaboration with Ilmor Engineering, paired with a six-speed manual transmission. This powerplant is projected to generate an output of approximately 800 to 850 horsepower. The design emphasizes lightweight construction, with the extensive use of carbon fiber materials targeting a total vehicle weight under 1,360 kg.
Power delivery is exclusively routed to the rear wheels. Hennessey has set ambitious performance benchmarks for the supercar, claiming the Blackbird is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in an estimated 2.5 seconds. These specifications position the Blackbird as a high-output machine rooted in traditional, high-revving internal combustion technology.
