The Health Fund has identified over 3,000 documented instances of misuse concerning medical leave. During a recent briefing for journalists, Director Zllatko Perinski detailed the findings, noting that the most substantial violations have been observed within the public sector, particularly among personnel affiliated with the army and police forces. Perinski highlighted significant discrepancies within specific institutions, including the MPB and URMV, where cases of employees remaining on medical leave for periods exceeding five years were recorded.
He specified that while these long-term cases exist, the majority of documented abuses fall within the one-to-three and three-to-five-year ranges. The Director announced that these violations will be formally reported to the Prosecutor’s Office, specifically concerning illegal material benefits. Furthermore, the scope of the inquiry extends beyond the individuals utilizing the leave.
Investigations will also encompass the attending doctors and specialists responsible for issuing the original medical reports. Moreover, Perinski confirmed that the review process will be comprehensive, extending to the internal governance structure. He stated that members of the fund’s own committees will also be subject to investigation if they are found to have been absent from official meetings or events without proper justification.
The directive signals a broad effort to ensure compliance and accountability across all levels of medical documentation and service provision.
