Nathan Thomas of the United States has been recognized by Guinness World Records as the youngest male professor in history. He achieved this title at the age of 18 years and 346 days. Thomas began teaching at Miami Dade College in August 2023, instructing students in an engineering and programming course, many of whom were close to his own age.
This accomplishment surpassed a record that had stood for over three centuries, previously held by Scottish mathematician Colin Maclaurin, who became a professor at age 19 in 1717, according to UPI. Thomas’s academic trajectory has been marked by early success. He began his college education at the age of 10 and earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering by age 18, achieving excellent academic standing.
Despite his youth, Thomas stated that his focus in the classroom remains on the material and supporting his students, asserting that age is not the primary determinant of the learning objective. Currently, he continues to teach online while concurrently pursuing law studies at the University of Miami. His future professional goals involve working within the fields of intellectual property and technology, contributing to the world academic landscape.
