The allegations forming the basis of the case stem from an indictment published by the Special Court between February 2, 2023, and September 2, 2023.
According to the indictment, during several non-privileged visits to the detention facility, Hashim Thaçi allegedly provided confidential information concerning prosecutors’ witnesses to Bashkim Smakajt, Isni Kilaj, and Fadil Fazliu. The prosecution further alleges that this information was used, in collaboration with other individuals against whom no charges were brought, with the intent to influence the testimony of several witnesses. Furthermore, the indictment details an alleged agreement between Thaçi and Hajredin Kuçi, whereby Kuçi was reportedly tasked with contacting the prosecutors’ witnesses.
The scheduled presentation of closing statements in September will address these claims. The proceedings represent a significant stage in the judicial process concerning the individuals named in the charges brought before the Special Court.
