Are sports grounds increasing the risk of ACL rupture in Kosovo?

ACL ligament tears are recognized as among the most intricate knee injuries, requiring extensive rehabilitation and a structured process for return to sport. Research conducted over the last decade suggests a significant correlation between the timing of athletic recovery and the risk of re-injury. Specifically, studies indicate that athletes who resume participation before a nine-month mark face a seven-fold increased probability of re-injury compared to those who adhere to a nine-month timeline for their return to sport.

However, the recovery process for an ACL tear is not governed by a single variable. Instead, the occurrence of such ligament tears involves a complex interplay of multiple factors. These can include individual physiological capacities, biomechanical attributes, neuromuscular function, anatomical structure, and hormonal levels.

A growing area of investigation focuses on external influences, such as the impact of different sports surfaces on ligament integrity. To investigate this specific area, a study was conducted in Kosovo examining the influence of sports surfaces on ACL tears. The research involved surveying 90 respondents who had previously sustained an ACL tear.

This evaluation aimed to determine how the playing surface might contribute to the incidence or recurrence of these significant knee ligament injuries.
