This pattern was noted again during a recent event where the government’s public relations representatives provided selective responses to questions posed by the press. SPGPM stated that the government has an obligation to communicate with the public transparently.
The union emphasized that silence should not be adopted as a policy, and that journalistic questions must receive answers. According to SPGPM, the current practice hinders journalists’ ability to verify the information they are seeking. Furthermore, the organization argued that press conferences should facilitate dialogue rather than becoming one-sided monologues devoid of Q&A sessions.
The union reiterated that the government’s public relations service bears a clear responsibility to respond to journalistic queries adequately. SPGPM maintains that open dialogue is essential for accountability and that the systematic withholding of information undermines the role of the press in an informed democracy. The body urged the government to adopt a more comprehensive and responsive approach when engaging with the media.
