Stojance Angellov, Director of the Directorate for Protection and Rescue (DMSH), provided an update regarding recent incidents involving fires in open areas. In a statement from the scene, Angellov reported that while more than five fires were recorded in open areas on the day of the statement, none presented a serious threat and are anticipated to be brought under control swiftly. Looking back at the previous day, Angellov stated that rescue teams successfully extinguished over 25 fires across various open areas.
He highlighted that the most challenging incident occurred within the territory of the Municipality of Makedonski Brod, near Samokov. This particular fire was noted for its complexity due to its location in difficult-to-access terrain. To manage the incident, a substantial response was mobilized, involving numerous firefighters from Makedonski Brod alongside three helicopters provided by the Directorate for Protection and Rescue.
Angellov attributed the successful containment of this major blaze to the weather conditions, specifically noting that rainfall in the area the previous afternoon provided the final critical assistance. The director confirmed that the overall response managed a larger scale of fire activity. The consistent deployment of resources and the favorable weather conditions were key factors in managing the multiple incidents reported across the region.
