“How ignorant and backward,” Hoti criticizes the government over energy policy

Avdullah Hoti, a Deputy of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), issued a pointed critique regarding the current trajectory of the nation’s energy sector, specifically targeting the policies enacted by the Vetëvendosje Movement (LVV) government. Hoti focused his criticism on what he views as a significant deficiency in investment within the country’s energy infrastructure and the failure to develop new, sustainable production capacities. According to statements made by Hoti, Kosovo has reached a paradoxical situation in its energy market.

He noted that following the cancellation of several major energy projects, the nation is reportedly positioned to export coal while simultaneously being required to import electricity derived from that very coal source. Hoti asserted that this contradictory scenario is a direct consequence of inadequate investment in modern and sustainable energy alternatives during the tenure of the current government. He emphasized that the reliance on exporting a primary fuel source while remaining dependent on its derived power supply indicates a structural weakness in the national energy planning.

The Deputy stressed that the current reliance on coal exports, coupled with the necessity of importing coal-generated electricity, signals a critical lapse in long-term energy strategy. His remarks underscore a call for a fundamental reassessment of the energy sector’s investment portfolio to secure more resilient and sustainable power generation for Kosovo’s future.
