Flick chooses Leipzig’s star for Barcelona, but his price is staggering

According to Spanish journalist Gerard Romero, Hansi Flick has identified Castello Lukeba, a defender from Leipzig, as a primary transfer target should Barcelona seek to acquire a high-caliber center-back. The 23-year-old French defender has established himself as a crucial component of the Leipzig squad following his transfer in 2023. His consistent performance has seen him accumulate over 100 official appearances with the German club.

Lukeba is noted for his athleticism, left-footed ability, and proficiency in initiating attacking moves from the back line. Consequently, he is being viewed as a natural long-term successor option for Barcelona’s defense, potentially filling a role similar to that of Inigo Martinez. However, the path to a transfer is anticipated to be challenging.

Reports indicate that Leipzig is hesitant to part ways with another important starting player. This reluctance is partly attributed to the recent departures of other key squad members, including Yan Diomande and Lois O. Therefore, while the interest from Barcelona and the assessment by Flick point strongly toward Lukeba, any potential agreement is expected to face significant hurdles regarding valuation and player retention at Leipzig.
