Krasniqi: Budget for municipalities has increased by 66%, Association represents 38 municipalities

Minister of Local Government, Elbert Krasniqi, issued a response regarding statements made by Sazan Ibrahimi, the head of the Association of Kosovo Municipalities, following an interview with Telegrafi. The discussion centered on the financial allocation and funding mechanisms for local government units. In his remarks, Krasniqi refuted the accusations leveled against the central government concerning the financial status of the municipalities.

He asserted that the claims made were without factual basis, pointing instead to the documented growth in the budget designated for local authorities. Krasniqi publicly criticized the approach taken by Ibrahimi, suggesting that the statements were based on a lack of verifiable data. To counter the narrative, Krasniqi reiterated financial projections previously presented by the Minister of Finance, Hekuran Murati.

According to these figures, the budget allocated to the municipalities reached 546 million euros in 2021. Furthermore, the projections indicated a substantial increase, anticipating that the funding level would reach 907 million euros by 2027. The Minister of Local Government emphasized that these figures illustrate a significant commitment from the government toward strengthening municipal capacities.

Krasniqi maintained that the budgetary trajectory confirms a growing financial support structure for the municipalities, thereby countering any suggestion of fiscal strain or neglect within the local administrative structures.
