Data released by the Institute of Statistics indicates a rise in the number of road accidents in Albania during the first seven months of 2026 when compared to the same period in the previous year. Overall, the statistics show an increase in the frequency of accidents. Focusing on the month of april, the data revealed a notable uptick.
In april 2026, 165 road accidents were registered, marking an increase from the 131 reported in april of the previous year. Furthermore, the associated casualties rose, with 235 people reported killed or injured, up from 194 in the corresponding month last year. Examining the cumulative period from January through april, the total number of accidents reached 844, an increase from the 767 recorded in the first seven months of the prior year.
The impact on human life was also evident in this period, where the combined total of dead and injured people stood at 1,187, compared to 1,077 in the seven-month period of 2025. The Institute of Statistics also provided context regarding the nature of these incidents, noting that 90.3% of the reported accidents were attributable to specific contributing factors, providing a key area for further analysis regarding road safety measures in the coming year.
