The Basic Court in Peja announced on August 24th that Halil, Kreshnik, and Kastriot Mehmetaj were found not guilty in connection with a triple homicide that occurred in Gllogjan. Specifically, Kastriot and Kreshnik Mehmetaj were acquitted of the charge of “Aggravated Murder” committed in conspiracy. Additionally, Halil Mehmetaj was acquitted of the charge of “Assault to the Death.” Furthermore, Kastriot Mehmetaj was also acquitted of the charge related to the illegal possession of weapons.
The case stems from an incident that took place on November 26, 2021, when a bus was allegedly targeted with firearms. The incident resulted in the deaths of the bus driver, Gani Gjokaj, and two students, identified as L.H. and G.M., both aged 17.
One other individual sustained serious injuries. The Prosecutor’s Office had previously accused the Mehmetaj family members of involvement in the attack, asserting that the intended target was the driver, Gjokaj. Following the submission of video evidence, the trial proceedings were reopened in April.
The court’s decision to acquit the Mehmetajs on these charges marks the conclusion of the legal proceedings regarding the alleged conspiracy. The ruling establishes that the individuals were not found guilty of the specified criminal acts by the court.
