A suspected explosion involving a gas cylinder occurred this evening at a residential property located in the village of Markatomaj, within the Lezhë region. According to police reports, the incident was officially registered at approximately 8:30 PM on August 29, 2026. The blast resulted in multiple casualties, with a total of six individuals reported as injured.
Among those affected were two children, aged 10 and 13, alongside the homeowner, identified as S. K., who is 40 years old. Additionally, three women—aged 64, 70, and 58—were among those who sustained injuries in the incident.
Police services responded immediately to the scene of the gas explosion. Emergency personnel were instrumental in providing initial aid and facilitating the transport of the injured. The initial medical care was administered at the Lezhë Regional Hospital.
Due to the nature of the injuries sustained by the homeowner, S. K., authorities subsequently transferred him to the Trauma Hospital in Tirana to receive more specialized medical treatment. Authorities confirmed that the initial response focused on stabilizing the victims.
