Pristina’s Mayor, Përparim Rama, has announced plans to establish a new municipal public enterprise dedicated to sanitation services within the capital city. Rama stated that the existing Regional Company “Pastrimi,” which serves several municipalities including Obiliq, Fushë Kosovë, Lipjan, Podujevë, and Drenë, no longer adequately meets the specific requirements of Pristina. According to the Mayor, the capital city has fulfilled all necessary obligations, and the requisite documentation is publicly available.
He noted that the process has been stalled pending a final signature, a delay whose financial consequences are being borne by the citizens of Pristina rather than the relevant ministry. To address this issue, Rama reported holding a meeting this week involving the mayors of the municipalities comprising the Regional Company “Pastrimi,” alongside the company’s management and workforce. The objective of these discussions was to move forward with the necessary restructuring.
The decision to create a new, dedicated entity underscores the administration’s commitment to improving municipal services within the capital. Rama emphasized that the current operational structure is insufficient for the needs of Pristina, necessitating a localized and modernized approach to waste management and cleaning services.
