Telashe with the translation, Endri Nika’s case is postponed to September 25

The Basic Court in Pristina has rescheduled the retrial concerning Endrit Nika, the accused, setting a new date of September 25 for the proceedings. Nika stands accused of the murder of his Argentine girlfriend in an incident that took place in 2023. The decision to postpone the trial followed a formal request submitted by Tomë Gashi, the defense attorney representing Nika.

Gashi argued that the judicial body had not met the necessary prerequisites for continuing the hearing. Specifically, his objection centered on the adequacy of the interpreter provided for the court proceedings. According to the defense counsel, the interpreter was reportedly limited to German and failed to account for the Swiss dialect, which Nika is understood to speak.

Gashi contended that the court had not secured a suitable linguistic resource, noting that written German does not fully encompass the nuances of the Swiss dialect. He stated, “Initially, I believe that the primary conditions for continuing the judicial hearing have not been met because the court has not managed to secure an adequate interpreter for Endrit Nika from the German language, since we all know that written German is the same in Switzerland and Germany.”

The postponement effectively pauses the legal process against the accused while the court addresses the procedural concerns raised by the defense regarding linguistic interpretation.
