Ibrahim’s center loses the fight for the medal, finishing fifth

At the 2026 Taranto Mediterranean Games, Kosovar karate athlete Qëndresa Ibrahimi secured a fifth-place finish in her discipline. Ibrahimi was involved in a highly competitive bout as she contended for a bronze medal. Despite her strong performance, she was unable to advance past Bosnian competitor Nejra Sipoviq, who previously claimed a bronze medal at the 2026 European Championships.

Nevertheless, achieving fifth place at the Mediterranean Games is recognized as a significant accomplishment for Ibrahimi. The overall performance of the Kosovar contingent at the Games has been notable. To date, Kosovo has accumulated five total medals across various sports.

This success was bolstered by Donjeta Sadiku, who won a gold medal in boxing. Laura Fazliu contributed a silver medal in judo, while three other athletes—Akil Gjakova, Fatjona Kasapi, and Flaka Loxha—each secured a bronze medal, contributing to the nation’s medal count. Ibrahimi’s placement underscores the depth of talent within the country’s sporting programs.

The athletic achievements across boxing, judo, and karate highlight a concerted effort by the nation’s athletes to compete at a high level on the international stage. The cumulative medal haul reflects the successful participation and dedication shown by the entire contingent in Taranto.
