The Kosovo Government on Friday approved a draft law establishing price caps on basic goods. However, business representatives have expressed dissatisfaction, arguing that the measure harms their operations and makes continued function impossible. Consumer advocates suggest the government should take steps to stabilize the market.
The price cap law was also approved in 2023 but subsequently invalidated by the Constitutional Court. Following three years of legal challenges, the Kosovo Government voted again in favor of the draft law, citing it as a temporary measure for essential products during market instability. Approval of the draft law requires final passage in the Assembly.
Meanwhile, fuel prices rose again on Saturday. A liter of fuel was sold for a price exceeding the maximum set by the ministry, with pumps visible in the background.
