Skopje Airport Customs Seizes Undeclared Australian Dollars
Customs officials at Skopje International Airport apprehended two Macedonian citizens attempting to pass through the Green Channel without declaring a significant sum of money. The incident occurred during routine checks on travelers. A husband and wife pair were selected for detailed inspection following their passage through the airport.
During the examination, customs officers discovered 68,000 Australian dollars were present in their possession. The individuals had opted for the Green Channel, which is designated for passengers not carrying goods or currency to declare. Following the discovery, each individual returned 10,000 euros.
Additionally, authorities seized 35,000 Australian dollars. According to the Law on Currency Operations, failing to declare currency held within the country carries legal consequences. The incident highlights the importance of passengers utilizing the appropriate channel at Skopje airport and adhering to declaration requirements.
