Abdixhiku: The president’s case, closed for the PDK

Kosovo Presidential Election Stalls as LDK Declares Process Closed

With just one week remaining before the constitutional deadline of April 28 for the presidential election, a resolution remains elusive between the Vetëvendosje Movement, the Democratic Party of Kosovo (DPK), and the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK). The situation has intensified as LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku announced his party’s withdrawal from the election process. Abdixhiku stated that the LDK is effectively outside the process, deeming it closed after 53 days of negotiations.

He explained that the LDK had pursued a consensual approach, having engaged in open discussions and attempted to reach an agreement. “The LDK is effectively outside the process,” Abdixhiku said. “Because we have made efforts for 53 days, we have been open, we have agreed to close the process in a humane way.”

During this period, Abdixhiku reportedly worked to persuade other parties to adopt a solution that did not involve Vetëvendosje.

However, he indicated that these efforts were unsuccessful. “I tried for 53 days to convince the president does not belong to Vetëvendosje,” he added. The ongoing impasse raises concerns about the potential for a constitutional crisis as the deadline for electing a president approaches.

Negotiations between the key parties are continuing, but a breakthrough appears unlikely at this time.
