Ademi: A process has been initiated in the Constitutional Court to remove ethnic quotas in the Academy of Judges and Prosecutors

Arbër Ademi, the Secretary General of the Democratic Union for Integration, has stated that a formal process has been initiated to eliminate ethnic quotas within the Academy for Judges and Prosecutors. Ademi argued that, according to his view, the current system of quotas compromises the government’s ability to function effectively by limiting adequate representation. Speaking on the matter, Ademi also voiced significant criticism regarding the rulings of the Constitutional Court.

He alleged that the court has issued decisions that he characterized as anti-constitutional, suggesting these actions aim to destabilize the state. According to Ademi, the review of the ethnic quotas at the Academy for Judges and Prosecutors is one component of the broader process currently underway at the Constitutional Court. He asserted that the existence of these quotas impedes the government’s capacity to operate properly.

Ademi further suggested that the institution responsible for these rulings is operating independently of established constitutional guidelines, making decisions that do not appear to align with the law. The statements highlight a deep political disagreement regarding judicial independence and the composition of the judiciary. The focus remains on the ongoing process to reform the Academy, with Ademi maintaining that the removal of quotas is necessary to ensure that the judiciary can function based on legal merit rather than demographic representation, thereby upholding the constitutional order.
