The Association of Journalists of Kosovo (AGK) has welcomed the ruling by the Basic Court in Pristina concerning the assault on KTV journalist, Ardit Kika. The court sentenced Agron Kyçyku to four months in prison. According to the AGK’s statement, the judgment included a suspended sentence for Kyçyku, coupled with a one-year probationary period.
Furthermore, the court imposed a supplementary penalty barring Kyçyku’s access to social networks for six months. The AGK noted that the accused, Kyçyku, entered a plea of guilty regarding the criminal act of assault against Kika. The Association characterized this court decision as a notable development in the ongoing efforts to combat violence and threats directed against journalists.
In their statement, the AGK emphasized that they welcome this ruling, viewing it as a significant step in the struggle to protect journalists from attacks. This outcome is seen by the AGK as reinforcing legal accountability for actions taken against media professionals. The sentencing structure—combining incarceration, probation, and digital restrictions—is viewed as a measure to deter future misconduct.
The AGK’s positive reception underscores the importance of the ruling in maintaining a safe environment for the press in Kosovo, particularly following incidents involving Kika.
