ESHS: Number of violent deaths increases in Macedonia

Data from the State Statistical Office indicates an increase in the number of violent death cases in 2025 when compared to the preceding year, marking a rise of 6.8 percent. Overall, a total of 546 individuals were registered as having died by violent means. The demographic breakdown revealed 374 male victims and 172 female victims.

Analysis of the causes of death showed that accidental incidents constituted the largest proportion, accounting for 82.2 percent of the total, equating to 449 fatalities. Suicides accounted for 14.8 percent, representing 81 deaths, while homicides comprised the smallest category at 2.9 percent, totaling 16 deaths. Within the homicide category, the number of victims was 16, with 9 identified as male and 7 as female.

The report further noted that the highest contributing factor to the overall violent death toll involved fatalities resulting from attempts to inflict bodily harm using firearms or other unspecified weapons. These specific incidents represented the most significant single contributing cause among the recorded data.
