Customs authorities intercepted an attempt to smuggle high-value gold jewelry at the Bogorodi border point. According to the Macedonian Customs, officers seized items valued at 1.1 million denars from two Kosovo citizens. The suspects were found in possession of four gold chains, totaling a weight of 190.6 grams.
Authorities determined that the individuals had purchased the gold items in Turkey and subsequently attempted to move them across the border by concealing them on their persons. Following the discovery, the case was transferred to the Investigation Department. This department subsequently filed criminal charges against the perpetrators with the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Gostivar.
This incident marks the eleventh seizure of gold by the Customs Directorate this year. To date, the total amount of confiscated gold jewelry reaches two kilograms. The Directorate reported that these seizures have occurred across multiple points, including four incidents at Bogorodi and five at the Skopje International Airport, with one additional seizure noted elsewhere.
The ongoing enforcement actions underscore the customs agency’s commitment to monitoring illicit trade of precious metals and goods.
