Albanians among the most emotionally exhausted in the workplace in Europe

A recent report from the European Commission details current working conditions and sustainable labor practices across several nations, offering a five-year assessment of employee well-being. The data highlights varying levels of emotional exhaustion reported by workers throughout the region. According to the findings, seventeen percent of Albanian workers indicated feeling emotionally exhausted either “always” or “most of the time” due to their employment.

This figure places Albania among the top ten countries in Europe reporting such levels of burnout, exceeding the general European Union average of 13%. The regional data shows significant variation. Kosovo reported the highest rate in the area, with 29% of its workforce citing constant or frequent emotional exhaustion.

This places Kosovo second highest in Europe, trailing only Cyprus and Montenegro, both at 26%. North Macedonia reported a rate of 21%, while Serbia’s figures matched those of Albania. Conversely, Bosnia and Herzegovina reported the lowest rate of emotional exhaustion at work, standing at 13%.

The survey provides a comprehensive snapshot of labor stress, indicating that while some nations face considerable challenges regarding workplace strain, the metrics vary significantly across the Balkans. The Commission’s report aims to inform policy development regarding sustainable working environments across the continent.
