Government Announces Extension of Employment for Retired Healthcare Professionals
In response to ongoing shortages within the country’s healthcare system, Health Minister Azir Aliu announced changes to the legal framework governing retired medical professionals. The proposed modifications, currently under government procedure, will allow doctors and nurses who have retired to continue their employment up to the age of 70. According to Minister Aliu, a key challenge identified by the Ministry of Health is the persistent lack of qualified doctors and nurses across the nation.
He emphasized the critical need to leverage the existing expertise of experienced healthcare staff. The revised legislation will permit retired individuals to request continued employment within a healthcare institution experiencing personnel shortages. Those who accept will receive a standard pension alongside additional compensation for their continued service.
“This represents a fundamental shift in our approach,” stated Aliu. “By utilizing the skills and experience of our retired doctors and nurses, we aim to address critical gaps in staffing and bolster the provision of healthcare services.” The initiative is intended to provide immediate relief and contribute to a more stable healthcare workforce.
