Digital Transformation Minister, Stefan Andonovski, revealed on TV21’s Click Plus that North Macedonia will lead the way in fulfilling EU obligations concerning supplementary roaming charges. Andonovski detailed that North Macedonian citizens will no longer face additional fees for calls, messages, or internet usage while traveling within the European Union. He clarified that this action represents a key commitment.
North Macedonia will be the initial nation to satisfy these requirements, ensuring residents won’t encounter extra costs when utilizing services in EU member states. Andonovski’s intention is to implement the Balkan roaming model within the broader EU framework. The ministry has finalized its preparations, submitting the necessary text to the EU for review.
A parliamentary vote on the matter is scheduled to follow. Andonovski acknowledged receiving inquiries from B two weeks prior, prompting further discussion and adjustments. Ultimately, Andonovski underscored the significance of this achievement regarding roaming, highlighting North Macedonia’s position as the first country to successfully meet these EU standards.
