Another major Russian fuel refinery stops operating

NORSI, a major Russian oil processing facility, has suspended crude oil operations following a Ukrainian drone attack. According to reports from industry sources, the incident occurred in the Nizhny Novgorod region, where the refinery is located. Local governor Gleb Nikitin confirmed that the attack resulted in one fatality and damage to an industrial facility.

Sources indicated that the primary unit of the CDU-6 section at NORSI sustained damage during the assault. This specific unit is significant to the facility’s output, as it is capable of processing 25,700 metric tons of oil daily, which equates to approximately 190,000 barrels. This processing capacity accounts for 53 percent of the refinery’s total operational capacity.

NORSI has the overall capacity to process over 15 million tons of oil annually, or roughly 320,000 barrels per day. Lukoil, the company that owns the refinery, did not issue an immediate comment when reached for comment regarding the incident. The shutdown of this key unit highlights the immediate operational disruption caused by the recent attack.

The facility remains one of Russia’s largest oil producers, second only to the country’s largest gasoline producer.
