Arrest of two Kosovo citizens in Demir Kapë for illegally transporting migrants from Egypt

Two residents from Kosovo were arrested in Demir Kapë on suspicion of smuggling migrants. Criminal charges have been filed against the individuals, and they have been placed under a 30-day pre-trial detention. The incident occurred on May 26, 2026, at approximately 6:30 AM.

Officers from the Border Surveillance Police Station “Mihajllovë” intercepted two men, identified as A.G., aged 42, and G.G., aged 39, both nationals of Kosovo. The checkpoint was located on the Gjevgjeli-Negotinë highway in the Demir area. During the routine inspection, the police stopped a “Volkswagen Transporter,” bearing Kosovo license plates and driven by A.G., and a “Skoda Octavia,” also with Kosovo plates, driven by G.G.

Authorities discovered seven migrants from Egypt inside the “Volkswagen” vehicle. Furthermore, it was determined that the “Skoda” vehicle was being utilized as a getaway car in connection with the activity. The District Prosecutor’s Office subsequently notified the Public Prosecutor’s Office regarding the findings.

The two Kosovo residents face charges related to the smuggling operation following the police action at the Demir Kapë checkpoint.
