Political Analyst Predicts Stability in Bulgaria-North Macedonia Relations
Political analyst Petar Arsovski has stated that despite potential shifts in rhetoric from former Bulgarian President Rumen Radev, no fundamental changes are anticipated in relations between North Macedonia and Bulgaria. Speaking on “Click Plus,” Arsovski observed that Sofia’s established position remains largely unchanged. Arsovski believes Radev’s approach will likely involve “more” refined language, aligning it with the positions of the European Union.
However, he emphasized that this does not signify greater flexibility. “I believe we will receive a more refined language from Radev, more coordinated with the positions of Brussels, but fundamentally the stance remains rigid,” Arsovski explained. He asserted that the core message is focused on fulfilling previously agreed-upon terms, with the responsibility for progressing the negotiations resting with Skopje.
Arsovski further suggested the European Union may attempt to offer declaratory guarantees to alleviate pressure on the Macedonian political elite. “The European Union is likely to try to offer some declaratory guarantees in order to ease the position of the Macedonian political elite, but without fundamentally changing it,” Arsovski concluded.
