BDI: European Parliament raises concern over the influence of the “Serbian World” in Macedonia, VLEN remains silent

The Democratic Union for Integration (BDI) has criticized recent statements made by representatives of VLEN, alleging that the statements disregard issues concerning the identity and rights of Albanians in North Macedonia. In a formal statement, BDI highlighted that its reaction coincides with a day when the Albanian community is experiencing the effects of a Constitutional Court ruling. Specifically, the court’s decision resulted in the removal of street names in Tetovo that contained Albanian content and symbolism.

BDI stated, “On the day that Albanians are facing the consequences of the Constitutional Court’s decision that abolished street names with Albanian content and symbolism in Tetovo, the exponents of VLEN continue to target BDI, repeating fabricated accusations.” The party asserted that a response from VLEN representatives is necessary. The core of BDI’s criticism suggests that VLEN’s actions are misplaced given the current socio-political environment affecting Albanians in Macedonia. The focus of BDI’s statement appears to be on drawing attention to the impact of the court’s decision on the naming conventions within the region.

BDI maintains that VLEN needs to address the matters concerning the rights and cultural identity of Albanians within the political discourse of Macedonia.
