British Airways will pay pilots up to $100,000 a year to stay put, not to fly aircraft.

British Airways Creates New Pilot Role Focusing on Terminal Operations

British Airways (BA) is expanding its pilot workforce with a newly created role focused on transporting aircraft between terminals at Chicago O’Hare International Airport. The initiative, detailed on the airline’s careers website, represents a unique opportunity for experienced pilots. According to reports, successful candidates will operate aircraft within the airport environment, but will not be involved in taxiing or landing procedures.

This specialized role is designed to alleviate pressure on the airline’s operational pilots. Ben Schlappig, an industry expert and founder of One Mile at a Time, described the position simply as “job,” accurately reflecting its function. The role offers a compensation package ranging from $90,000 to $100,000 (approximately €76,995 to €85,551), making it an attractive option for qualified pilots.

This development highlights British Airways’ ongoing efforts to optimize its operational efficiency and utilize its existing pool of pilots effectively. The focus remains on ensuring the safe and reliable movement of aircraft within a major international hub.
